New Delhi [India], October 5: An Indian delegation led by Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, has concluded its three-day visit to the United Kingdom.
The delegation included Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Department of Legal Affairs, and Dhruva Kumar Singh, Chief Controller of Accounts. They held significant discussions with Shabana Mahmood, the UK's Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. India's High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, along with other senior officials, also participated in these key meetings.
The discussions were conducted in a friendly atmosphere and centered on enhancing collaboration in simplifying laws and employing plain language in legislative drafting.
Both parties exchanged best practices regarding Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, particularly focusing on arbitration and mediation. They reviewed India's ongoing reforms designed to expedite dispute resolution and foster economic growth and investment.
The delegation also discussed the facilitation of UK-qualified legal professionals and law firms operating in India, referencing a prior meeting on October 1, 2024, between the Chairman of the Bar Council of India and the President of the Law Society of England and Wales. Additional bilateral issues of interest were also explored.
On October 2, 2024, the Minister of State for Law and Justice was the Chief Guest at the Gandhi Jayanti event organized by the Indian High Commission at Tavistock Square, London.
After this event, he visited the London School of Economics to pay homage to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and explored various locations significant to both Baba Saheb and Swami Vivekananda during their time in London.
On October 1, 2024, he attended the opening of the UK Legal Year Ceremony at Westminster Abbey, where he was joined by law and justice ministers from countries including Italy, Germany, and the European Union. Following this, he interacted with members of the Indian diaspora.
