New Delhi [India], September 6: New Zealand Cricket has appointed former international all-rounder Sarah Tsukigawa as the new selector for the women's team.
Tsukigawa will assume the role previously held by Jason Wells, who left in May, and will be instrumental in shaping New Zealand's squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup next month.
New Zealand is one of the three teams yet to finalize their 15-player squad for the tournament, with the squad expected to be announced in Christchurch on September 10.
Following her appointment, Tsukigawa expressed her desire to contribute to women's cricket and make a meaningful impact. At 42, she believes her experience as a player and her ability to communicate effectively will benefit the selection process.
"I've always wanted to get back involved in women's cricket and give back to the game that has given me so much. Clear communication is crucial in selection, and I feel I can offer that along with my playing experience," Tsukigawa told ICC.
She also expressed confidence in the current White Ferns team and the development pathway for future players. "NZC's investment in women's cricket has created remarkable opportunities for female cricketers, and I'm eager to contribute to this growth," she added.
Tsukigawa, who has 61 caps for New Zealand and competed in the first T20 World Cup in England in 2009, has recently expanded her career as a selector and assistant coach in Otago, while continuing her teaching career.
