Jamnagar (Gujarat), August 29: Due to ongoing floods in Gujarat caused by continuous rainfall, the road linking Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya in Jamnagar has been shut to traffic. Additionally, part of a small bridge on Sir PN Road has been swept away by the floods, disrupting commuter movement.
In response to the situation, the Gujarat government requested assistance from the Indian Army. Six army columns are now conducting rescue operations in the most affected areas to provide urgent humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
The Army's deployment comes after the Gujarat government sought their support on Tuesday for relief operations across several districts hit hard by flooding. Previously, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued 95 individuals.
Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel reported that over 5,000 people have been rehabilitated and more than 12,000 rescued from the floods that have severely impacted Vadodara. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with him on Thursday morning, offering guidance on flood relief efforts and assuring support from the Central Government.
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted more rain for the state, including extremely heavy rainfall in Saurashtra and Kutch, and very heavy rainfall across Gujarat.
